Biography
Brian Molko was born on December 10th 1972 in Brussels. His mother is Scottish and his father American. He also has a ten year older brother called Barry. Brian grew up in a very religous home but says now a days that he has no connections to jesus. Because his father was a banker who had to move alot, Brian spent most of his childhood in places like Liberia and Lebanon. When he was in his teens, his parents got divorced.
Brian was sent to an internationall boarding school in Luxembourg. After that, he rarley saw his father. It was at this school he first met Stefan Olsdal. They were completly different, Stefan was a popular sport guy while Brian was the outsider. Infact, Brian was often picked on, his nickname was “faggot”. But he didn't care, he just carried on getting stoned and hanging around at the drama society. At the age of 14 he begun to play women onstage. But he didn't start dress like a woman in Luxembourg, because it wasn't the place for it.
His love for acting made him leave the school in Luxembourg at the age of 17. He went to London, but his father wasn't pleased with this desision. In London he attended Goldsmith’s College. And it was in London that Brian was truly formed.
In 1994 Brian bumped into Stefan in London's South Kensington tube station. Outside the subway the two of them discovered that they had a mutural interest, music. They formed the band Ashtray Heart. They flew in an old friend of Stefan, Robert Schultzberg, from Sweden and he became the drummer. The band later changed their name to Placebo.
Brian's androgynous style has caused alot of confusion in the media. There are still some people who ask if he is a man or a woman. Just because people thought that he was a woman, he started to wear makeup in order to add to the confusion. He doesn't see himself as a rolemodel but more of a bad influense, but he is happy to see that more boys are wearing eyeliner.
He's not gay. He is bisexual. Now we have sorted that out.
He is friends with the likes of David Bowie and Marilyn Manson. He calls Manson "Satan" and before their gig together they used to drink absint, but Manson wasn't good a taking it and Brian used to pick on 'Satan' becous of this.
Molko has carried a fan's Polaroid everywhere he's gone as a luckycharm for the last years. It depicts a teenage girl with a black eye in a room with "extremely distasteful purple wallpaper". Scrawled across it is the legend, 'Kill Fuck Die'.
Brian was a strict vegetarian and had been for several years. But he had to go back to meat, his body couldent take the vegetarian lifestyle.
